I don’t know any other way to put this, so I’ll just be frank…Sidney Rice is a damn fool. The news today in Gamecock country is that South Carolina All-SEC receiver is returning to the Gamecocks next year instead of leaving for the NFL. This guy must be out of his cotton-picking mind. (Source)
At 6-foot-3, 200 pounds the guy is physically gift to be a beast in the NFL. In a season and a half, he’s already the is No. 1 all time among USC receivers with 20 touchdown catches and scouts are already rating this guy as a top 5 receiver going into the 2007 NFL Draft. Seriously, the smartest thing to do is throw those deuces at Steve Spurrier and go get that NFL money.
Please don’t talk about how you want to stick around and make USC a SEC championship contender. First, the program doesn’t give two shits about you. If you don’t believe me, ask some former players what the program did for them after their eligibility was up and they didn’t make it to the League. Second, winning a SEC championship is cool and all but if you’re not talking national champs than who really gives a fuck. And I have a better chance of banging New-New than USC has of winning a national championship, so don’t give us the championship aspirations excuse.
Now, we understand the boy wants to get a degree, but fuck that too. I have a degree and it’s overrated. I’d trade in my degree for a NFL contract any day. And he can always go back for the piece of paper later. So I don’t want to hear that either.
And I think USC quarterback-turned wide receiver-turned back to quarterback-turned safety (random) Syvelle Newton agrees with me:
“I can’t see Sidney coming back. Sidney tells me every day he’s coming back, and I told him if he comes back me and him are going to have to go in the back and fight. But I could see why he would want to come back, to help the team and go out and prove what South Carolina can do. If coach Spurrier gets him back, I can see them doing big things.”
Fuck that! If Spurrier was offered a shit load of money to leave USC and take a job as (just play along) NFL commissioner, I’m sure he’d leave the program too.
I understand, college is cool. There’s nothing like being the Big Man on campus, fucking all the underclassmen hoes and getting free extra chicken fingers from the Russell House Gimp on Wednesdays, but the NFL is calling your name, son.
Jonathan Joseph and Ko Simpson both did the right thing last year by breaking for NFL riches, and the year before that Troy Williamson wasn’t trying to hear the Spurrier “Fun & Gun” offense coming to town shit. Would you rather be like them or end up like the other USC talents like Derek Watson, Demetrius Summers or Moe Thompson that blew first round money or didn’t make it because they made bonehead mistakes.
God forbid the kid has a career-ending injury. The coaches will pat him on the back, he’ll get some Gamecock fan mail, and then they’ll ship his black ass back to Gaffney with a “Sorry” note attached to his back.
C’mon on Mookie, do the right thing. Tell the Gamecocks “holla”. Get money.

That was exactly what I was thinking. USC is alright, but damn, I’m not turning millions to stick around Columbia. I mean the risk of injury is enough itself. Fuck the school and get money Sidney!

Hef concurs, get money, Sidney.

Randy you are off the chain for that one! But, I feel you to the utmost. Get in, and get good! As a gamecock fan I would love for Sidney to come back so I can have gamecock bragging rights in the SEC, but in the same token, you gotta get that paper while it’s calling your name. If I had millions of dollars calling my name, im coming. You never know when you go another year, you might experience a tragic injury that could make you kiss the league and millions of dollars goodbye. Who knows? But at the same time, you got to do you first and formost! If money aint your thang, and pleasing Spurrier, getting a degree, and shooting for a SEC championship is, then GO for it. But, you got to weigh it out first! A phantom vs. A gamecock jersey! Sam King Ent

That’s true Pun, the man should follow his heart. And if his heart says stay at USC, that’s all to the good. But in my opinion, it’s an open and shut case, go to the League.

Fuck dat. Thats a personal decision and thats that. You dont know what chances USC has to win the National Championship. Nothing is ever guaranteed. YOu cant listen to what people are telling you. Hell I was projected anywhere from 2nd-4th round and didnt go at all because of injury. Shit Sydney can go train somewhere in Arizona and get hurt and fall to the 4th, 5th or free agent status. Nothing guaranteed dude. If he changes his mine its a personal decision he feels is best for him and his family. Bottom line is that its good he’s not listening to the outsiders. Go make money! Go make money! That shit is not everything. Alot of muthafuckas go crazy with bundles of many at a certain time in their life because they cant handle it. Right now that man loving his life and winning a championship is important to him. Being a competitor is what he’s interested in right now. It may change in the coming months, but for now just except the man decision and support it. Oh yeah those other guys made poor choices, so you cant blame USC for their mistakes. USC responsibility is to pay for your school, give you an opportunity to play, and the resources to graduate. Anything else that occurs like injury and choices is in the individual hands. Thats life and we must learn how to overcome those things. He knows when the time right. The kids going to get paid no matter what because he’s a great player. Right now he’s sees the prospect of winning a championship, and thats good coming from the BEST CONFERENCE IN AMERICA(SEC). That shit still is big, but only the cats who shed blood and tears for EACH OTHER(fuck the school!)knows that.
