My man Ammon-Ra does Throwback Thursday on his site (when he remembers). Me, I do Flashback Friday. I wanted to go to Atlanta this weekend for New Years, but I have too much work to get done. Since I can’t make it to the A, I decided to take it back to where my infatuation with Atlanta all started…Outkast’s “Player’s Ball”.

Ok, so Verbatim isn’t really from SC, but he was living in SC when he shot this video (I think). Anyways, this vid is better than watching the rest of your vids with busted ass hoes shaking their laffy taffies for peanuts, so I’m crowning it SC Video of the Year. (In 2007, if you’re going to shoot a “strip club” video please use some good looking broads, please).

(Editor Notes: SC Best of Week continues here at Writer’s Block, so today I’ll take a look back at all the artists to release albums (or street albums) this year and pick my favs. I didn’t hear everyone’s album so this list is as close as I can get with hearing the albums that I did hear. If your album isn’t listed, I prolly didn’t hear it, didn’t like it, didn’t play it because the artwork was wack, you tried to sell it to me and I didn’t buy it, threw it away, or you never sent it to me, (Street Gallery). Some people prolly don’t care about SC music (but I do) and wonder why I don’t have a “mainstream” Rap Albums of the Year list. Well, there are plenty of those lists around the net. If you really need to read one, go here. Ok, now that I got that out of the way, here are the SC Rap Albums of the Year).

1. Danny! Charm

Ya’ll can laugh and ridicule Danny all you want. You can even curse me (I don’t care, go to another site). But I’m going to say this empathetically with a straight face, Danny’s Charm is the BEST SC RAP ALBUM EVER!!! I doubt that anyone in SC heard it (except me), everyone else did. Charm was critically acclaimed by Okayplayer.com, MTV.com, Vibe.com, VH1.com, AOL Music, and Billboard, while the rest of you were busy trying to sell me your albums with marker writings on it outside of Main Event. Charm got Grammy consideration this year for Christ’s sake.
On Charm, Danny took a concept and followed it to perfection. He added some punchlines, tights beats, and throw in some skits that effectively added to the concept of the album. That’s prolly the reason Charm is a true ALBUM.

I’m not going to go into the depth of the album, you can check the interview for that. But Danny raised the bar when it comes to making music and a complete album in the Palmetto State.

I interviewed Baby Boy awhile back for Ozone. My dude is reppin’ for the Nawlins (New Orleans, LA for you remedial fuxs). This video was featured on MTV Jams this week and I’m happy to see his project is getting some legs. Lil Boosie is on this song too (I know Boosie stans will appreciate that).

I know Christmas is over but it’s still a celebration bitches. And you’ve got to admit this is some funny ish. Here’s Phonte and that Night Befo’ Christmas pic that I couldn’t upload the other day down in Charleston. Phonte is a damn fool wit’ it, and this Holiday song is pretty funny too.

I was going to see Dreamgirls today but for some odd reason the movie isn’t showing here in Columbia (nor Charleston). With all the buzz surrounding this movie I have no idea what the hell is going on. This is another reason being in SC fuxing sucks sometimes. As much as I love seeing Beyonce stans tear up in anguish, I’m still kinda blowed. I was really looking forward to seeing Jamie Foxx looking a complete fool with that damn finger wave.

Since “black” movies don’t come out too often, I knew Dutch Square Theater was gonna be looking like Club 112 so I went out and copped a new outfit to wear to the movies this week (damn, what a waste).

I don’t know when the joint is going to drop here (or if it ever will) but by the time it does, I’ll prolly have the bootleg. From what I’ve heard, the movie is being shown in Aiken, SC or Augusta, SC or one of those cities that’s too damn far to travel to see a damn movie. That’s crazy. What’s so special about those country ass cities?

I just got back from Charleston, and after four days of family, friends and food, I can say this might have been the best Christmas break since I was a young jit and got that Voltron set. (My grandfather didn’t even piss his pants this year, hooray!!!). I had so much fun I think I’ll keep the partying going this year. So Happy Kwanzaa! That’s right, your boy is celebrating Kwanzaa this year.

No, I’m not lighting candles, giving out presents everyday or pouring libation liquids but it gives me a reason to keep the party going until New Years. Now, this doesn’t mean you fools have to send me those annoying text messages like on Christmas, but if anyone is looking for me, I’ll be somewhere celebrating my African-American heritage by getting drunk while watching Higher Learning and Roots until I’m pissed enough to go to 5 Points and start a random fight with the first white boy that gets extra friendly and calls me his “nigga”.
