I’ve been sitting on this info for a few weeks now, but I’d like to go ahead and introduce Yung Daze, and announce that Daze is an 18-year-0ld rapper from Greenville, SC, that just signed with Mr. Collipark. Yes, the man that produced the Ying Yang Twins, discovered Hurricane Chris and turned Soulja Boy into a megastar has chosen a kid from South Carolina as his next artist. This marks the first time a South Carolina rap artist has signed a major deal since…since…since…I can’t even remember when. For all my SC people, this is a big deal…South Carolina we got one!

I haven’t met this kid yet, but I like what I’m hearing about him. First, instead of getting DJ Drama or DJ Scream or some DJ from off to host his mixtape, he reached out to SC’s own DJ Chuck T. And for his photo shoot, he got my man Clevis Harrison to take his press photos (credit the picture about to Clev). Now, that’s what we call “keeping it South Crackin’.”

So, be on the lookout for Yung Daze. His mixtape with DJ Chuck T, The Emergency Room will be out soon. And his first single is called “Contagious” (which I’m posting below).

This is a good look for my home state. We got Yung Daze working with Mr. Collipark, and Lil Ru has a surprise for you muthaf@ckas, too (but I’m not sure if I can break that news just yet).

Anyways, 2009 is looking mighty promising for South Cack. We’re the last that never did it. But stay tuned. South Carolina, we got something to say.

Yung Daze – Contagious

Read Yung Daze’s bio after the jump.

Born Martenez DeShawn McCullough, “Yung Daze” has quietly slipped under the radar of today’s teen hip-hop explosion. His recent signing to Collipark Music, headed by the infamous Mr. Collipark, marks the start of a superstar career for the 18-year-old. Born on October 23, 1990, he exudes southern hospitality and the charm of a chap considerably older. “This is a blessing for me and my family,” says Daze, the new owner of a diamond-studded chain boasting the Collipark Music logo. “I’m happy to be part of one of the world’s hardest working and successful music labels.”

A native of Greenville, South Carolina, Daze acknowledges that his interest in music started at an early age. “It was very natural for me even at six years old. As I got older, I would sit down and write all the time,  just seeing more and learning more.” He obscurely speaks of his experiences and personal life, leading one to assume Daze has seen and heard far more than the average adolescent. He humbly proposes to audiences across the music spectrum that his work will reflect real life. “I have a little bit of everything to offer, especially ‘real life’ situations. It’s very lyrical, very raw.” Thus, proving he has the ability to supersede expectations as well as deliver a much-needed message to today’s youth. In addition, Yung Daze’s presence fosters a musical balance at Collipark Music. “Although my music is nothing like Soulja Boy’s, the fans [of Soulja Boy], can still relate, it’s more street and covers all aspects of life.”

Citing rappers T.I., Tupac and Biggie, as musical influences, Daze looks to incorporate a more melodic delivery to his work. “I’m also influenced by Avant and R. Kelly,” he says. Production on his introductory mixtape aptly entitled Emergency Room is currently underway. “Contagious”, the first release, is intricately produced with unique yet grotesque sounds resulting in a blend of bold music and self-possessed lyrics. Other hits include “Ridin’ for the South” and “Cool Baller.”

When asked of his prediction for the future, he paints a vivid picture deficient in bravado, but radiating a modest truth that almost lacks in most new artists. “I just want to be in the industry for a long time. I want to put the South on my back. South Carolina gets no shine, but I’m here now.” As Myspace hits and comments prove in his favor, the cyber world agrees – he most certainly is!
