You know, when I first heard they were making a movie based on the life of the Notorious B.I.G., I thought the movie would suck, majorly. But when I started hearing people say the movie was actually good, I decided to check it out. Well, I saw Notorious yesterday and I must say, the movie really is good.

Gravy did his thing in bringing Christopher Wallace back to life. The forever smashable Angela Bassett was great as Biggie’s mother Voletta Wallace. Duke Luke was supposed to be Sean “Puffy” Combs, but to me it seemed more like he was playing Derek Luke, acting like Puffy.

Doesn’t Derek Luke seem like he’s the same character in every movie? Don’t get me wrong,I like dude as an actor. But he’s the same in Antwone Fisher, Biker Boyz, Glory Road, it doesn’t matter. He’s the same character. But it was kinda funny watching him dance around as Puff.

As for Lil Kim, played by old girl from 3LW, Naturi Naughton…I kinda see why Lil Kim was pissed off about the way she was portrayed in the flick. Naturi nailed Kim’s character, but damn they made Kim look like Biggie’s jumpoff. I mean, I guess she kinda was, but still, they played her.

Lil Cease got played too. Cease was played by the lil nucca from Losing Isaiah, and they made Cease look like Biggie’s 15-year-old “yes-man” the entire movie. I think Cease should be more mad about his character than Lil Kim. Well, if Tupac was still alive, he’d probably be mad about how wack Anthony Mackie was as his character (didn’t dude play Tupac in another movie or something?).

I’m just tripping ya’ll. Acting as characters that are familiar to the general public is a tough task. But overall, the cast of Notorious were on point. The movie really brought me back to the days when B.I.G. was all over the charts, and it made me remember why I became a Biggie fan in the first place. And on top of that, it allowed you a chance to glance into the life of Christopher Wallace, and witness the charm and charisma that not only made him a star, but that touched the lives of everyone he came in contact with.

Probably the hardest thing about making this movie was, for people watching it, you already know how the story goes, and unfortunately, you already know how this one ends. But throughout the movie, you will still be entertained and your attention grabbed.

Out of respect for Christopher Wallace, his family, friends, and creators of this movie, I’m not going to attach a rating to this. It’s not fair to rate a movie that’s based on the life of one of the best rappers to ever touch the mic. I’m just going to say, if you’re a Notorious B.I.G. fan, or just a fan of hip-hop in general, this is one of those movies you just have to see. So, go see it.

I’ll tell you one thing though, they’re making some money off this film. Word on the streets net, Notorious brought in about $8 million the first day, and it’ll probably be the #3 movie at the box office this weekend. Congratulations to everyone involved for that. And of course, R.I.P. to the Notorious B.I.G.

Now, go see this movie.
