lil_ru

My SC people already know what it is wit Lil Ru…well, maybe you don’t, but I’ve been seeing about of people around the net wondering who Ru is since his single is blowing up. So here’s his story. Lil Ru is a South Carolina artist that has been putting it down for SC for years. He’s one of the first to have a major label deal when he was signed to Elektra. But he lost his deal when Elektra merged with Warner. He continued to grind and was responsible for hood classics in the Carolinas like “Can’t Hang,” “Hood Hard,” and “Don’t I Look Good,” which ultimately landed Ru a single deal with Capitol about a year ago.

After the deal with Capitol, “Nasty Song” started to buzz in SC. Ru went to New York and hooked up with Charlamagne Tha God, who linked Ru with Swizz Beatz and they began shopping him to some labels. There was a small bidding war (nothing like Drake or anything, though), and Ru ended up signing to Def Jam through Charlamagne and DJ Frosty’s label Stupid Dope Moves.

But as the saying goes, “more money more problems,” because as the deal was being signed, their was a rift between Lil Ru and Charlamagne, to the point where Tha God considers Ru to be…well…“disloyal, unappreciative, ass negro who Def Jam gave SDM a nice check for, and I hope he blows so we can get me $$$.”

It actually got to the point where Ru went on a radio station in Columbia and said Charlamagne and Stupid Dope Moves had nothing to do with him getting a deal with Def Jam, so you can see why Tha God feels some type of way about the whole situation.

Right now, “Nasty Song” is one of the hottest songs in the country, but Ru must have really pissed some people off back home. I remember about a month ago, I  asked Collardgreen about Ru (Green is a SC rapper that used to be with Ru all the time, they were even featured together when I interviewed them for AllHipHop), and he replied, “Lil Ru, who’s that?” (Damn, homie. Is it really like that?).

From what I hear Ru won’t come back to South Carolina for fear of his life (I’m just sayin’ what I heard). Actually, the last time I saw Ru, I bumped into him at a Wild Wings in Augusta, GA. I was wondering what he was doing there. I mean, Augusta isn’t exactly one of those cities you just visit on the regular. I was there for a wedding, but Ru told me he moved there. Now, after hearing he can’t come back to SC, it kinda makes sense now.

This NSFW video is a “Nasty Song” version that was shot in Columbia, SC some time last year, but Def Jam actually gave Ru the budget to shot an official video, and he shot it in Charlotte, NC last week, but didn’t want to shot it in Columbia because…well, like I said nuccas wanna fux him the fux up.

Nevertheless, Ru is moving forward with his Def Jam project, and his debut album 21 & Up is set to be released on July 7th, and another “Nasty Song” video should be out soon.

Well, I haven’t spoken to Lil Ru, so that’s only one side of the story. I wish Lil Ru the best with this major label project. But it looks like you started a mess back home. Considering that rap artists usually need the backing and support of their home team and state to really make it in the rap business (just ask these guys), you might want to try and fix things. Even if you don’t, Ru. Good luck, man.

yeah i read up on this the other day actually. Kinda sad especially with SC (and all the big wigs that pushed his shit) backing him up for the past few years. I hope he knows he’s gonna need sc to really blow up. It’s not cool when you can’t even go back home and rep your shit. God bless

  2. Babygirl

Really? He can’t come home… now that’s sad.

  3. KJtheGreat

exactly! what difference does it make to get a deal and NOT be able to come home to shoot your FIRST real video. this is supposed to be a celebration.

sad day for SC rap. if this story is true then Ru just made it that much harder for an artist from SC to get some shine.

  4. M.U.

    That’s really sad.

  5. DA TRUTH

I APPLAUD YOU RANDY FOR DOING THIS STORY. ALL I WANT IS FOR THE PEOPLE OF SC TO KNOW THE TRUTH HOMIE. I LIKE LIL RU BUT THE BIG DUDES IN SC KNEW DUDE WAS SHIESTY WHEN THEY STARTED TO BACK HIM. NOW HE DOES THEM WRONG AND EVERYBODY ACTING LIKE THEY DIDNT SEE IT COMING. RU IS KEEPING IT REAL TO ME BECAUSE HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN A SHEISTY DUDE, ITS NOTHING NEW. FROM D TEC TO CHARLAMAGNE THEY KNEW HOW DUDE WAS. TO CHARLAMAGNE, YOU MUST REMEMBER THAT EVERYBODY DOESNT GET GOD’S BLESSINGS. SO INSTEAD OF YOU USING YOUR USEFUL RESOURCES TO GET A DUDE A DEAL, INVEST THE TIME INTO A REAL NI**A. YOU HAD TO SEE THIS COMING CHARLAMAGNE.

  6. akshun

    But don’t I look good?

  7. donteregis

Can’t say that I was surprised. It is what it is. Best of luck to him.

  8. Stupid Dope Krypto

Hadn’t been over here in a while and I come back to this. Wow good shit RE and a gave a realest view, ok thats all i’mma say on the situation. Just know some way bigger shit than “Little Ru” about S.D.M.’s gonna be blessed to be apart of coming in T-Minus a month or two. Wish nothing but the best for him hope he goes platinum and does a million plus downloads!!!!

  9. KiKi

Now that’s horrible. Somebody needs to call a truce like what J Prince and Pimp C did for those Houston rappers who had problems with each other.

  10. WHY ALL THE HATE?

I’m convinced now that Columbia, SC is the hater capital of the world. The two boys that was with Def Jam, forgot they name. But they had that video on BET. Columbia hated on them heavy. Collard Greens always been hated on and so has Lil Ru. Lil Ru may blow up but SC will never get on until everybody inColumbia starts to support these artists to the fullest and the hate begins to slowly cease.

  11. Randy Exclusive

    Hmmmmmm…guess its deeper than rap.

  12. donte regis

looks like it’s much deeper than rap. shame it gotta be like that.

  13. SHOD B

YEA MAN CHARLAMAGNE TALKED TO PISTOL PETE BOUT WHAT HAPPEN WIT RU..BUT ITS TWO SIDES TO THA STORY I WISH HOMIE LUCK N LIKE HOMIE SAID COLUMBIA IS THA HATE CAPITOL OF THA WORLD…RANDY U KNO IM AN ARTIST HERE BUT WE DONT SUPPORT EACH OTHER FOR SHIT EVERYBODY WANNA B DAT NIGGA INSTEAD OF SEEIN THA BIG PICTURE..IF ONE GET ON IT HELPS EVERYONE ELSE..BUT ITS ALL POLITICAL IN MY EYES…

R.E. I’M NOT TELLING YOU HOW TO RUN YOUR SITE, BUT THE RIDGEWAY INSIDER COMMENT SHOULD COME DOWN. I MEAN HOW IGNORANT CAN ONE BE. I’M NOT A RU FAN NOR A BIG CURRENT RAP FAN PERIOD, BUT THE RIDGEWAY INSIDER COMMENT IS OVER THE TOP. HE’S TALKING ABOUT A DUDE’S LIFE MAN. KIDS READ THIS SITE. PLEASE LET YOUR SITE BE BETTER THAN THAT, YOU BE BETTER THAN THAT.

    ON LIL RU,
I HEAR HIS “NASTY SONG” IN THE CLUBS ALL THE TIME – FROM COLUMBIA (ONLY BEEN HERE 2 YEARS) TO THE A, TO B-HAM. PEOPLE LOVE THE SONG, ESPECIALLY THE WOMEN. TO BE TRUTHFULLY HONEST I LIVE IN COLUMBIA AND THAT’S THE ONLY RAPPER FROM COLUMBIA THAT I KNOW OF (AND THIS GUY “LIL’ BROAD ” I THINK). ANYWAY, PEOPLE SHOULD CALM DOWN AND LET THE MAN BE. LET’S NOT BE CRABS IN A BUCKET. LET’S NOT BE “BLACK” CRABS IN A BUCKET. THIS HATE DESTROYS THE MUSIC, CULTURE, AND THE COMMUNITY.

LET’S BE HONEST ABOUT THE SITUATION. IF RU MESSED OVER SOME BUSINESS PARTNERS, THEN THEIR BUSINESS SHOULD HAVE BEEN TIGHTER FROM THE START. THAT’S WHAT CONTRACTS AND LAWYERS ARE FOR (ASK THE LOX AND PRINCE). HIS PARTNERS SHOULD OF HAD BETTER LAWYERS TO HOLD EVERYBODY ACCOUNTABLE TO THE AGREEMENT. AND THEN ON THE SNITCHING PART (IF IT’S TRUE). SNITCHES ONLY CAN HURT PEOPLE WHO ARE DOING OR HAVE DID SOMETHING WRONG. IF YOU ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING ILLEGAL THEN A SNITCH CAN’T AFFECT YOU. IF YOU ARE DOING EVERYTHING BY THE BOOK, THEN YOU DON’T NEED TO WORRY ABOUT A SNITCH. AND THAT’S REAL TALK.

SO FINALLY, I WISH THE YOUNG BROTHER RU THE BEST OF LUCK WITH HIS FUTURE, AND I HOPE THE PEOPLE WHO ARE BLAMING HIM FOR THEIR MISFORTUNES TAKE A LONG LOOK IN THE MIRROR.

    JUST MY 2 CENTS.

  15. Randy Exclusive

Yeah, you’re right. I don’t condone violence, and I’ve never let a comment like that ride before.
