    but i’m lost. what did he do (besides get signed by jayz) that made him so big? I’m asking because there’s alot of artist who rap just as good content and they can’t sell an album for .99 cents

    I think J. Cole tapped into a market and story that never really was told before. I can’t think of a rapper that went the route of a college kid following his dream, that graduated and ended up owing Sally Mae a lot of money.

    That was basically his theme and I think a lot of people relate to that in the form of good music.
