Some rapper from L.A. dropped a song called “Charlmagne Tha God” and when Charla sent this record, he posed the question “Why nobody from South Carolina ever did this for me?” Good question.
I’m sure someone from SC could make a better “Charlamagne Tha God” song than this. This guy is terrible.

Why would somebody make a song a song about him?
October 28th, 2011 - 11:44 am
Pump the concept, dump the lyrics.
October 28th, 2011 - 11:52 am
Yeah, I’m with Akshun. Charlamagne is doing his thing and MUCH respect to him on that. He certainly doesn’t shy away from South Carolina and represents when people ask where he’s from BUT what has he DONE for anyone (sans Lil Ru) in SC to warrant a lyrical ode? Get Righchus booked for some shows in NYC and I’ll personally make sure he makes a song for CthaGod! haha
October 28th, 2011 - 1:41 pm
Agree.
October 28th, 2011 - 1:51 pm
Since when is it a requirement to do something for others in order for a song to be made about you?
Remind me, what exactly did Tony Montana and Charlie Sheen do for the overwhelming good of the people?
October 28th, 2011 - 3:24 pm
i’m still trying to figure out that one too

One thing i’ve learned (which I never thought was true by the way) is people from other places appreciate you way more than the people from where you’re from. People from where you’re from just see you for what you were not what you are now.I always was the type to see someone from South Carolina prospering and the inspiration of them being successful was enough for me. Case in point seeing B Lord on “Rap City” back in the day and watching him rep SC made me feel like I can make it to. A person doesn’t always have to literally do something for you to be appreciated KJ. Sometimes the inspiration is enough and if I haven’t inspired my homestate yet I promise you I will, but if I don’t guess who really won’t give several fucks? By the way I love this site! Salute to Randy Roper my guy who has inspired me numerous times in my life!!

Salute to C. Tha God. Keep doing you homie.

I haven’t been in the comments section lately, but I must chime in on this one…I cosign everything that Cthagod said in his reply. The “someone needs to put me on” mentality is running rampant not only through the Carolinas, but the music business as a whole. If someone gives you something as opposed to showing you how to get it yourself, you won’t appreciate it.

I agree with everything C said. If the INSPIRATION isn’t enough I don’t know what is! I see a lot of folks have the LOTTERY MENTALITY. If this nigga 3 houses down the block from you hit the lottery…you think your chances of winning are gone. Everybody want a handout these days. BUILD YOUR OWN BRAND! Niggas claim they INDEPENDENT..BUT they MORE DEPENDENT on others then there selves! All these “Indies” do nowadays is just rap! You just a rapper! You not “independent”. I learned my lesson a long time ago…that’s why i do not reach out to folk like that anymore because niggas a downplay your talent and your grind by not responding and shrugging you off. I know more then half of the djs/bloggers in SC got my music in they EMAIL …i dont get mad if they dont play my shit or dont post it! I dont care no more! and i aint sending no more music out unless they ASK! Alot of these NEW rappers are ON because of relationships! You WILL NOT BUILD relationships unless you get yo ass up…out..get on your grind…network…and build those relationships!
In this day and age you dont even need a major budget to get shit popping! Hell you dont even need the radio! Mannn im ranting…but salute to Mr. Roper and shout out C tha god…the inspiration is enough on my end! Next time you see someone from sc doing something you not..think to yourself WHY NOT ME! then get on your shit! – Joey P

Wow! I didn’t think my comment would stir the hornets nest but let me try to calm the storm. haha
@Joey – Dude. “Lottery mentality”? If you gleaned that I’m looking for some kind of hand out based upon my comment then it’s obvious that we are not on the same page & there is no need to respond to the rest of your statements. But I will ease your mind and let you know that me and my team are working, bruh. Ask Randy if you don’t believe me (sorry to put your name in this Mr. Roper haha).
@CthaGod – You’ve made some very valid points. Inspiration is a great motivator and you definitely have provided that to many in the Palmetto State with the great work you’ve done and the strides you’ve made in your career.
However, inspiration is NOT enough. You of all people know that being from South Carolina has certain limitations: an infrastructure of radio stations, djs, and venues that are NOT the most supportive of independent hip-hop & a lack of exposure for SC based artist to major media outlets/tastemakers are just two major issues that come to mind.
Personally, I’m past inspiration. I’ve got more inspiration than I know what to do with. It does provide me the fuel to continue to do what I’m doing but it certainly doesn’t pay bills OR get you meetings. So if we’re being candid, what I’m looking for is the the same thing that YOU received on your way to the top: an opportunity. And yes, I feel that you and others in your position (since you mentioned him ,B-Lord and let’s throw in Chuck T for good measure), have an obligation to help in the development of a state y’all claim to love so much. To whom much is give, much is also required right?
Again, I’m not saying that you’re NOT a hard worker, that you haven’t earned the success you’ve achieved, nor was I trying to imply that you’re not already an inspiration to many people in SC (and truthfully, you SHOULD give several fucks about whether or not you’re making a positive impact on your community). What I’m saying is that I believe you can do more than just “inspire” us. You can provide opportunities for people in your home state that very, very, very few others can.
Contrary to what Joey P believes, I’m not asking for YOUR “fish”. You earned those fish from the sweat of YOUR brow and your own determination and perseverance. I’m asking, for both myself and those to scared to speak on their own behalf, that you to TEACH us how to fish so that we can take care of ourselves and in turn, teach others how to as well. And until someone of your caliber takes a vested/personal interest in the development of artist and other socially mobile entrepreneurs in South Carolina, NO ONE deserves a song, a day, or any other forms of praise outside of us already being proud of the path you’ve made for yourself.
I hope that you can objectively understand my position, if not I’ll be happy for us to agree to disagree as no disrespect was meant on my part, homie! And thanks for reading the site, I hope you continue to do so–I’m having it redone next month! haha
