In case you didn’t hear the news over the weekend, Louisiana rapper Torence “Lil Boosie” Hatch was acquitted of murder.

According to XXLmag.com:

Torence “Lil Boosie” Hatch has been found not guilty of murder.

After deliberating for about an hour on Friday (May 11), an East Baton Rouge Parish jury acquitted Lil Boosie of the alleged murder-for-hire plot of Terry Boyd.

Boosie, who has been in jail since 2010, serving time on drug and gun charges, was facing life in prison for his alleged involvement in the shooting death of Terry Boyd. And although this is somewhat good news from a hip-hop fan standpoint, do remember that Boosie still has to serve eight years for the previous gun and drug charges. I mean, I’m not even sure if I’ll still be listening to rap music eight years from now.

Not to rain on anyone’s #FreeBoosie parade but it’s not like the guy is about to get out of jail next week and releasing a new album this summer like everyone thinks. He still has time to do…

Lord forbid, Boosie finally gets out of prison in like 2018, signs to Cash Money like Mystikal, violates probation and ends up right back in the slammer before he can even put a new album out. All this hypothetically speaking, of course.

I’m from Charleston, SC, which like most small towns in the South, rappers like Boosie, Yo Gotti and 2 Chainz are more popular than Jay-Z, Kanye and Drake (no, I’m dead serious), so I’m a fan.

I’ve been a Bad Azz fan since the early 2000′s but lets say Boosie doesn’t get out of jail for another 4-8 years, are people still going to check from him when he gets out?

The other day I meet this 19-year-old girl (no R. Kelly) and she didn’t even know who the Hot Boys were. Granted, the chick was about four-years-old when Wayne, Juve, Turk and BG first came out, but that’s one of those moments when I realized I’m getting too old for this sh-t.

I say that to say this, when Boosie does get out, are kids even going to remember him? (My guess is Chief Keef will have taken over by then).

Sorry for not being as ecstatic as everyone else that Boosie was aquitted, but lets not forget that another black man (Terry Boyd) did lose his life, and another (Michael “Marlo Mike” Louding) will spend his life in jail for the murder. But I guess black on black violence is commonplace and no one cares about those facts.

On the bright side, Boosie is a step closer to seeing his family and kids, so that’s a positive. We’ll probably see him in about 2015, if he gets out early on good behavior. So lets keep that #FreeBooise campaign going until then, and we can revisit this topic then.

Never too old for hip hop. It’s more so staying relevant and being aware of what’s new while at the same time being mindful of the culture’s history & not letting yourself become a dinosaur. If that was the case then Hov would be too old, Sway (from MTV), Russell Simmons & others…

That Hot Boys thing just caught me off guard. I’m cool now though.
