Right now, Righchus is probably my favorite MC from out of my hometown, and this week he’s on the cover of the Charleston Scene, which is Charleston’s weekly newspaper, kinda like the Free Times in Columbia, SC or Creative Lofting for my folks in the A. The homie KJ put me on to Righchus and his producer, Max Berry, sometime last year, when he sent me a pretty dope video to post on The Block. It took me awhile to figure out how to spell his name correctly righteous but I finally got it, and I’ve been following Righchus & Max Berry ever since.

The Charleston Scene article is pretty cool, because it’s about the emergence of the hip-hop scene down in Charleston, and aside from Righchus & Max Berry, they also interviewed Marley Mar, Twin D, and Charlamagne, and touched on the rap scene in Chucktown, as a whole.

And like I was saying about Righchus, I’m not home that often, but from what I heard dude has a good following down there. And that’s partially because his live show is dope and he performs quite often; especially at the Music Farm, like when he opened up for Wiz Khalifa last week. The other day, I asked my homeboy in Charleston if he went to the Wiz Khalifa show and he said, “What’s that?” I honestly, wasn’t going to reply, but 30 minutes later he replied again, “What is that?,” so I finally told him.

But anyways, I’ve put up a few Righchus songs over the last year or so, but he’s more of the type to actually sell his music on iTunes, as opposed to getting everything away for free like the rest of us idiots. I’ve been pressuring him on Twitter to release a song called “Carolina Born” that he has a sample of on his Youtube page. In which he replied how bout we just drop warrenJae’s mixtape, and I didn’t even have a reply for that. So, I guess we’ll just have to wait for “Carolina Born.”

For now, just check out the Charleston Scene article. It’s good to see a Charleston rapper on the cover down there (especially when most rappers are only on a mixtape cover, and sometimes they can’t even get that right), and some black people still pick cotton on plantations.
