Word on the streetsnet, Drake’s Thank Me Later album numbers are in, and according to this site, Thank Me Later sold a modest 462,989 copies during it’s first week of sales. Not bad…not bad at all. Especially in this day and age of music, where fans download albums weeks prior to a release date. Drizzy Drake damn near went gold with his debut album in one week. That’s a win in my book. Clap for ‘em.
Congratulations, Drake…
Update: Well, sales were actually about 447,000, but that’s still pretty good.
I haven’t reviewed an album on The Block in quite some time, but since Drake’s highly anticipated So Far Gone leaked on the net a couple days ago and has been all the buzz on online communities, I guess now is as good a time as any to review a new album. So, here goes…
Over the last couple of days Drake has fallen victim to the inevitable, as a few high profiled features from his Thank Me Laterdebut album have surfaced on the net. Yesterday “Fireworks” featuring Alicia Keys hit blogs, and then last night Drake’s much talked about collabo with Hov followed suit. But nowadays album leaks are pretty much the norm, so either way we can expect more and more songs from Thank Me Later to pop up, until a download link for the entire album just magical appears in our inbox, at which time we’ll all proceed to download and listen to it. That’s just how it is today. Yeah, I’m just as excited as the next person to hear Drizzy’s album in it’s entirety, but on the flipside, it’s still important for us all to go out and purchase Thank Me Later when it comes out on June 15th. It’s really the only way for the culture to survive.
And with that said, I wasn’t going to post “Fireworks” or “Light Up,” just because I feel like we’ve already heard enough songs off this project prior to the release date, and I don’t want to play a part in taking away from the release as a whole, more than I already have. That and I just don’t feel like getting a cease and desist email from his label, and then going on a rant about blogs and the music game like eskay. But since a few of my folks already asked me to post it, I will (well, more like I’ll post a link to where you can download them from, so the label can send the letter to my man Chris Foxx instead of me). But these will be the last two tracks from this album that you’ll find on The Block. You guys are on your own from here on out.
Thank Me Later will be in stores and online June 15th.
Last night Drizzy Drake headlined the BMI showcase in Atlanta. I wanted to go, but I didn’t have a ticket, nor did I get an invite, which is surprising because I usually get invited to every other bum ass event in Atlanta. But I guess I’m not exclusive enough for a Drake headlined show, but I am too uppity to pay $30 for a ticket, so I ended up staying my monkey ass home (sh!t happens sometimes). Anyways, my boy Bank! was there on his Two Fifty Video grizzly, so he shot over this video of Drizzy performing “Fireworks,” which is the first track on Thank Me Later. I know Travis Porter performed at the BMI show last night too, so there’s more video on the way.
Well, I hope everyone had an awesome weekend. I saw this video over at 2 Dope Boyz, so we’ll start the week off like this. Drake’s debut album Thank Me Later drops on June 15th.
