Word on the streets net, this cover with The-Dream digging in Christina Milian’s jeans will be the final cover of Vibe that you’ll ever see. After this, the magazine that’s been around for as long as I can remember is shutting its doors for good. Damn. Every time a magazine folds, I cringe. Magazines are dying, B. The only rap nuccas left are the Source, XXL and us. R.I.P. Vibe.
You’ll probably need to click on this imagine, and enlarge it to really understand what I’m talking about. But Vibe.com put together what they call “The Best Rapper Ever” and what makes this funny, is they put the game’s best rappers ever into a NCAA tournament style bracket and they gave each rapper a seed number. So, for example, you have 2Pac as a #1, seeded against Plies as #32. Did ya’ll get all that? It’s hilarious. So, you have Eminem, Rakim, Notorious B.I.G. and 2Pac as the top seeds and then LL Cool J, Ice Cube, Lil Wayne and Jay-Z as #2 seeds. I’m not going to go through all the seeds, so you have to look at the brackets yourself to really get it. But if you know how the NCAA tournament works, it’s just like that.
But what they’re doing is allowing people to vote, and who ever gets the most votes moves on to the next round, until they get down to a winner who will be crowned “The Best Rapper Ever.” Pretty creative and funny, if I do say so.
They even have a play in bracket with the new cats like Wale, Jay Electronica, Asher Roth, Bobby Ray, Drake, Blu, KiD CuDi and Charles Hamilton. That bracket already began voting, and you can go here to see it.
But what’s really giving this whole thing the most pub, is the Joe Budden video, where he goes through the list and calls over Vibe.com for placing him as a #32 seed, and basically calls out half the list by saying he’s better than most rappers. Watch for yourself:
Joe Budden does have a point in some of this, but man, he’s funny. Actually, this whole thing gets deeper. Joe Budden went on Ed Lover’s radio show to talk about this whole thing, and in the process, he kinda pissed Method Man off. I’m going to post the videos from those interviews after the jump, but it looks like we could be seeing a Joe Budden vs. Method Man battle real soon. Man, look what Vibe.com started. Anyways, I’m gonna keep my eyes on the brackets and I’ll probably fill one out for myself. And I’ll probably let you all know when it gets down to a winner. This should be interesting.
